In plain language

PlotProfound is for exploring stories, saving what you read, discussing ideas, and collecting insignias. We use account information to operate those features. Your private notes and highlights are not shown to other members. Some aspects of your reader identity and collection can be public; you can control that in your profile.

Who operates this website

Nicolas Prakaytis, operating as Prakaytis Media, is responsible for PlotProfound and the information processed to run it. For privacy questions or requests, email contact@plotprofound.com. Operating country: Venezuela. We may be required to provide further business-contact information under laws applicable to particular visitors or transactions.

Information we receive

• Account and sign-in: your email address, generated account identifier, public display name, login session information, verification requests and necessary security records. We send time-limited, single-use email sign-in links. You may optionally set a password.
• Reading Room: articles you favorite, mark as reading or read, saved reading positions, highlights, private notes and any notes you choose to import.
• Collectibles: quiz attempts and answers, pass results, awarded insignias and the insignia you choose to feature.
• Public identity and discussions: your selected avatar, public display name, comments and replies, and permitted public profile information. Your public-profile preference controls whether your aggregate reading counts and collectible information are displayed to other visitors. Reading statistics and collectible information are private by default unless you explicitly enable public collection visibility in My PlotProfound. Existing saved choices are respected. Your comments, public display name and avatar may still be visible independently of this setting.
• Memberships and transactions: selected plan, membership level, subscription status, transaction identifiers, payment confirmation, renewal and cancellation records necessary to manage your subscription and handle payment disputes. When paid memberships are enabled, PayPal will process subscription payments. PlotProfound will use membership and transaction records to manage access, renewals, cancellations and payment disputes. We do not store your full payment-card number in your reader profile.
• Newsletter: your email address and newsletter choices when you separately subscribe to The Plot Letter. Newsletter sign-up is not a condition of opening a reader account. Newsletter delivery and unsubscribe handling use Mailchimp.
• Technical and safety information: IP address, browser and device information, basic server logs, anti-spam indicators, security events and cookies needed to provide the site, where these are collected by our hosting, WordPress, payment or security systems.

Why we use it

We use personal information to create and maintain reader accounts, provide Reading Room and collectible features, manage memberships, protect the website, respond to requests and meet applicable legal obligations. Where EU or UK data-protection rules apply, our legal bases may include performance of a contract for requested account and membership services; legitimate interests for proportionate security, fraud prevention and community moderation; legal obligations for required financial records; and consent for optional newsletter marketing and nonessential cookies. The applicable basis depends on the activity and relevant law. You may withdraw consent where processing relies on it, without affecting earlier lawful processing.

Public and private information

Your private highlights, notes, imported notebooks, reading positions, login credentials and payment details are not displayed on your public reader profile. Public comments are visible to visitors, including those without accounts. Your selected avatar and public display name may appear beside comments. Where your public visibility setting permits, other readers can see your collectible insignias, featured insignia and aggregate reading statistics. Turning this setting off does not remove comments you have already made.

Please do not put personal or sensitive details in public comments or in notes you intend to export and share. Anyone you choose to share an exported notebook file with may read its contents.

Cookies and local browser data

We use cookies or similar storage for essential sign-in, security, preferences and site operation. Optional analytics, embedded media or marketing services may use additional cookies if and when configured. Our Cookie Policy describes categories and consent controls. We will update its service list based on an actual scan of the live site and any new integrations.

Service providers

We rely on services such as our web host, WordPress and installed security/email services to operate the website; PayPal when paid memberships are enabled; and Mailchimp to deliver separately requested newsletters. Some of these providers may process information outside your country. Their own terms and privacy disclosures may apply where they act independently. We do not sell your personal notes or use them to advertise third-party products.

Saved reading information and administrator access

Favorites, saved articles, reading positions, private notes, highlights, imported notebook information and collectible achievements are kept in account-associated site records so they can remain available when you return or use another device. Your private annotations are not shown to other readers. The site operator, authorized administrators and infrastructure providers with suitable system access may be technically able to access stored account data when necessary for maintenance, security, troubleshooting, responding to your requests or complying with legal obligations. We do not routinely publish or share private notebooks with other members.

Voluntary tips through Ko-fi

You may choose to support the publication by following a separate link to Ko-fi, operated for Prakaytis Media. Ko-fi and its connected payment providers handle tip transactions under their respective privacy practices; tipping does not create a PlotProfound VIP membership or unlock member content. PlotProfound does not need your full payment-card number for this optional link.

How long information is retained

We retain account information and associated reading features while your account exists and for as long as reasonably needed to provide the service. We may retain limited transactional, security or dispute records longer where law, accounting or fraud prevention requires it. Server logs, caches and backups may have separate retention cycles. We will not promise an exact universal deletion period until hosting, backup and payment retention settings are confirmed.

Your choices and requests

You may change your public name, select an avatar, manage collection visibility, remove notes and download or import your notebook. When paid memberships are available, cancellation instructions will be provided in your membership account or by contacting us. You can unsubscribe from The Plot Letter using the link in any newsletter. To request access to, correction of, export of or deletion of your personal information, contact contact@plotprofound.com. Depending on applicable law, you may also have the right to object to certain processing, request a restriction, withdraw consent or complain to a competent data-protection authority. We may verify your identity before fulfilling a request; some information may have to be retained for lawful reasons.

Security

We use account verification, role-based publishing controls, access controls and other safeguards designed to reduce unauthorized access. No website can guarantee absolute security. Tell us at contact@plotprofound.com if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.

Children and families

PlotProfound is a general-audience publication. Reader accounts are intended for people aged 13 or older, and we do not knowingly invite children under 13 to register. Additional age and parental-consent rules may apply depending on your location. If you believe a child has registered without the permission required by law, please contact us so we can review the account and related information.

Updates

We may revise this Privacy Policy when site features, providers or applicable laws change. We will update the date above and provide further notice when appropriate.
