Independent research and fan commentary

PlotProfound is an independent editorial publication about books, films, television, animation and their fictional worlds. Its articles are intended as criticism, scholarship, commentary, interpretation and creative discussion. PlotProfound is not affiliated with or endorsed by the owners of the works it discusses unless specifically stated.

Original essays and commissioned or generated editorial imagery do not imply ownership of underlying fictional worlds, character designs, trademarks, official adaptation artwork or other protected materials. Any use of third-party material must have a lawful basis, such as permission, public-domain status, an applicable license or a legally justified exception; attribution alone is not permission.

Report a copyright or trademark concern

Email contact@plotprofound.com with the subject Copyright / Rights Concern and include:

  1. Your name, organization (if applicable), and a working contact address.
  2. A description of the work or mark that you own or are authorized to represent.
  3. The exact PlotProfound URL and the specific image, text, comment or material in question.
  4. A brief explanation of your rights and why you believe the use is unauthorized.
  5. Whether you request removal, attribution correction, source correction or another remedy.
  6. Any supporting information you wish to provide to help us understand and evaluate your concern.

Copyright and trademark concerns may be reviewed under different legal standards. A formal U.S. DMCA copyright notice has statutory requirements, including a signature, identification of the protected work and disputed material, contact information, and prescribed good-faith and accuracy statements. Consult the U.S. Copyright Office guidance for details. This contact page does not claim that PlotProfound has registered a statutory DMCA designated agent.

What happens next

We take rights complaints seriously and review them as promptly as reasonably possible. Depending on the circumstances, we may temporarily restrict access to disputed material, investigate the claim, request clarification, correct a source or attribution, replace an illustration, or remove content.

We also consider whether the disputed use is permitted by an applicable license, authorization, or legal exception, including fair use where relevant. No particular outcome is guaranteed, and our response will depend on the facts and applicable law.

If you believe material was removed in error, email us with the URL, the reason you believe use is authorized, and relevant supporting information. This informal review is not a substitute for a legally valid statutory counter-notice procedure where one applies.

Reader-contributed content

Readers must not upload infringing content into comments or otherwise misuse our services. Repeat violations can result in account restrictions. PlotProfound has a separate obligation to review material it publishes itself; notice-and-takedown measures and service-provider safe harbors are not an automatic defense for material published by the operator.
